J&S Autohaus has one address: 1723 N. Olden Ave., Ewing, New Jersey. It buys cars from owners in Arizona, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Georgia, California, and everywhere between. The owner never comes to Ewing. Here is how a sale works when the seller and the buyer are on opposite sides of the country.
Why a New Jersey dealer is buying a car in Phoenix
Because the car is worth the same in Ewing as it is in Phoenix, and J&S retails it out of the same building it buys for. There is no wholesaler in the middle taking a cut and no auction fee. That lets J&S pay what a car is worth instead of what a local trade-in bid would be. A seller in a market with two exotic dealers is not stuck with those two dealers.
Step one: the number
The seller sends the year, model, miles, color, spec, and photos through the sell page or by text. J&S comes back with an offer built from live auction results, current asks on the same car, and what the store can retail it for. No in-person inspection is needed to get the number. On a car with a loan, the payoff letter comes next.
Step two: paperwork by email and overnight
The seller receives a bill of sale, an odometer statement, and a power of attorney for the title transfer. Some states need a notary on the title; J&S arranges a mobile notary to come to the seller. Everything else is signed electronically or returned by overnight envelope with a prepaid label.
If the car is titled to an LLC or trust, the entity documents go in the same envelope. If the car is leased, J&S confirms with the lessor whether a dealer buyout is allowed before anything is signed.
Step three: the truck
J&S books an enclosed carrier to the seller's driveway. The seller gets the carrier's name and the driver's phone number. Most pickups happen inside a week of the paperwork. The driver photographs every panel, writes any existing marks on the bill of lading, the seller signs it, and the car is strapped by the wheels and loaded. The seller does not drive anywhere and does not pay for transport. Details in Why J&S Sends an Enclosed Truck for Every Car It Buys.
Step four: payment
When the driver confirms the car matches the description, J&S releases payment by wire. If there is a loan, the lender is paid first and the seller gets the difference. Most sellers see the money the same business day or the next morning.
What stays the same no matter the distance
- The offer. It is the same number whether the car is in Trenton or Tucson.
- The pickup. Always enclosed, always paid by J&S.
- The paperwork. J&S checks which states require a notary, which use electronic titles, and which have a specific bill of sale form before anything is sent.
What J&S does not do
- Ask the seller to deliver the car to Ewing
- Send an open hauler
- Hold the seller's money until the car arrives in New Jersey; payment goes out at pickup
Cars J&S is buying now
Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, and Mercedes-AMG and G-Class. Clean title, late-model, low miles preferred.
